The Montem Ultra Strong trekking poles looked great fresh out of the box.  I like the style, the locks and the weight.  The carbide tips are the star shape style, I prefer the round shape like Black Diamond uses.  The cork handles are really nice and comfortable, aesthetically pleasing and much better on the hands than rubber handles.

We took turns using the  Montem Ultra Light poles on our hike. Annie used them on the way up and I used them on the way down. Annie stands at 5’ 4” tall and I at 6’. The adjustability was nice, smooth and the locking mechanisms work quite well. The markings for height adjustments are well marked too.  The carbide tips are nice, they bite into ice and rock pretty good and we had minimal slipping. I would give the Montem Ultra Light trekking poles a 4.8 out of 5.

Are the Montem Ultra Light trekking poles worth the money?

PROS:

I really like the weight of these poles, they’re not the lightest poles out there but they are still nice in the hand.  The locking mechanisms work nicely and the adjustment moves smooth.  I like the cork handles, all poles should be cork, in my opinion.

CONS:

I only have 2 CONS really.  The first being the carbide tip style, not a deciding factor for most I’m sure but I just prefer a different style. The second being the bulky lock mechanisms, could be smaller but still work good.

ANALYSIS:

I rated the Montem Ultra Light trekking poles 4.8/5.  Although I am not a fan of the bulky lock mechanisms and the carbide tip style, the poles really are great.  The ease of adjustment, smoothness of adjusting, weight and the cork handles, all make them worth the money.

CONCLUSION:

I have used a few different sets of trekking poles and although I’ve used Black Diamond poles for the last year and a half, I would recommend the Montem Ultra Lights to anyone looking for a great set of poles for a killer price.  These poles will get a lot of use with the both of us using them on our hikes this year and the many years to come.  Get out there and enjoy nature and always use LNT.
